Description

Why is fire safety audit needed?

The purpose of fire safety audit of a construction work is to provide an assessment of the fire safety of the construction work. The construction work must be so designed and constructed that in the event of a fire:

  • the load capacity of the construction work is maintained for the prescribed period of time;
  • the generation and spread of fire and smoke in the building is limited;
  • the spread of fire to neighbouring buildings is limited;
  • safe evacuation is ensured;
  • the safety and possibilities of operation of the rescue team have been taken into account.

A fire safety audit of a construction work is required for obtaining a permit for use of the construction work if:

  • there is no building design documentation approved by the Rescue Board;
  • the construction work has been built significantly differently from a coordinated project;
  • changes in the way the building is used;
  • there is no documentation to demonstrate the safety of construction and building materials.
