Fire extinguisher inspection is part of the maintenance activities of fire safety installations and can only be ensured if the person carrying out the works has been provided with appropriate training and the relevant equipment, machines, tools and instructions therefor. The person performing the inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers shall follow the maintenance instructions of the manufacturer, standard EVS 933:2017 of the Republic of Estonia and the corresponding regulation of the Minister of the Interior.

Description

When a fire extinguisher passes through a check, a corresponding check sticker shall be affixed indicating the date of the next check. If it is found that it is not possible to renew the period of validity of a fire extinguisher brought for regular inspection with a sticker, the customer shall be informed thereof and in such case a new fire extinguisher shall be acquired already.  

If the frequency of fire extinguisher inspection is not prescribed by the manufacturer, the fire extinguisher shall be checked: 

  • fire extinguishers kept in a car, craft or outdoors shall be inspected every 1 year. 
  • every 2 years all fire extinguishers must be inspected (except those inside or outside the vehicle).

OKAY! The fire Safety Act, which entered into force on March 01, 2021, tightened requirements for inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers.
An undertaking performing the inspection and maintenance of a fire extinguisher shall submit a notice of economic activities to the register of economic activities (MTR) together with the appointment of the person responsible. The specialist responsible shall have professional training for the inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers and at least three years' professional experience in the field. The responsible person must be in a contractual relationship with the undertaking in order to ensure compliance with the requirements provided for in the fire Safety Act and legislation established on the basis thereof. 

Only fire extinguishers inspected and maintained by a competent person act as life-saving devices in a fire situation. This is only possible through the maintenance of an expert and high-quality fire extinguisher.
